If you suffer from any of the symptoms discussed in the Healthy Sleep section of our website, you will benefit from a sleep dysfunction evaluation. Dr. Bosma will perform an exam of your head, neck, mouth and throat. Films to study your jaw position and airway potential are utilized. Pulse Oximetry Studies, lateral head films to evaluate airway opening, heart rate variability testing studies are all included in your initial evaluation. This information is recorded and graphed for interpretation by Dr. Bosma. You may also receive a print out of the test results for consult with your primary physician.
Once this evaluation is completed, and if Dr. Bosma determines that you would benefit from an oral appliance, you may receive a Watch Pat 100 test. This is used for a home sleep study. The Watch Pat is worn on the arm during one night's sleep and records blood oxygen levels, heart rate activity, sleep apnea events, and sleep patterns. This sleep data is then downloaded and interpreted by Dr. Bosma and our affiliated Respiratory Physician. Then, a custom-made oral appliance can be fabricated for you. This appliance will increase the diameter of the airway when sleeping to significantly decrease or eliminate sleep apnea and eliminate snoring.
